200 foreign firms to attend int’l expo on textile, garment machinery in Vietnam (20/9/2013)

-When: Oct 24-27

- Where: Ho Chi Minh city

Thoi Bao Ngan Hang - Around 200 garment and textile enterprises from 12 countries and territories worldwide will take part in an international textile and garment machinery exhibition in Vietnam’s southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City on Oct 24-27.

The event will attract representatives from China, Hong Kong, Germany, India and Japan, among others, to come and introduce their latest machinery and equipment.

Bui Trong Nguyen, general secretary of the HCM City Association of Garment-Textile-Embroidery-Knitting (AGTEK), said the country’s garment export has gained steady growth over the years. This year’s target is more than $19 billion, versus $17 billion of last year.

This requires domestic companies to raise local content in their products and improve manufacturing processes, he added.

Compared to other Asian nations such as Bangladesh, Myanmar and India, Vietnamese garment firms find it difficult to compete with in terms of labor costs, so they should invest in modern machinery and equipment for higher capacity and energy saving, he noted.

On Sept 25-28, a number of Vietnamese firms will also join the China International Sewing Machinery and Accessories Show (CISMA), the word’s largest professional sewing equipment exhibition, to survey machinery, equipment and advanced technologies for the garment and textile sector.
