- When: Sept 4

- Where: Ha Noi

VietnamPlus - The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the Japan External Trade Organization and Nikkei Business Publication will co-organize the Vietnam-Japan Economic Summit (VJES) in Hanoi on Sept 4.

The three-day event aims to help the two countries build closer economic and business ties, exchange business updates and review their economic relations.

The VJES 2013 is expected to draw the participation of 400 delegates to provide professional insights and updates on business opportunities in the two markets.

In the first seven months of this year, Japan ranked first among investors in Vietnam with $4.09 billion. The figure helped raised total investment by Japanese investors in Vietnam to $32.78 billion to date.

Japan resumed providing ODA to Vietnam at the end of 1992 and is currently the Southeast Asian country’s largest ODA donor. So far, nearly JPY2.118 trillion in ODA has been pledged to Vietnam, primarily in the fields of infrastructure development and climate change response.

Vietnam attained a trade surplus of $782.98 million with Japan in the first half of this year, down 24% from a year earlier, the General Department of Vietnam Customs said.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Japanese Embassy have co-organized a high-level meeting to start the fifth phase of the Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiative in Hanoi to strengthen economic ties between two countries.
