VEN - The Vietnam-Japan Investment Cooperation Economic Forum 2013 will take place at the Grand Plaza in the capital city of Hanoi from August 20 to 22.

Vietnamese and Japanese businesses will discuss investment cooperation opportunities, focusing on infrastructure, real estate, construction and support industries in order to create new investment flows from Japan.

In the first seven months of this year, Japan ranked first among investors in Vietnam with $4.09 billion. The figure helped raised total investment by Japanese investors in Vietnam to $32.78 billion to date.

Japan resumed providing ODA to Vietnam at the end of 1992 and is currently the Southeast Asian country’s largest ODA donor. So far, nearly JPY2.118 trillion in ODA has been pledged to Vietnam, primarily in the fields of infrastructure development and climate change response.

Vietnam attained a trade surplus of $782.98 million with Japan in the first half of this year, down 24% from a year earlier, the General Department of Vietnam Customs said.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Japanese Embassy have co-organized a high-level meeting to start the fifth phase of the Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiative in Hanoi to strengthen economic ties between two countries.
